Kim Major-George

Kim Major-George is the President & founder member of the BBH Print Society. Kim’s fascination with texture and printmaking comes on the back of a long journey which started at Design college in the early 70s. After graduating, her career has spanned over 30 years ranging from surface pattern designing for the gift industry, teaching Art and Design, to book illustrating in the 90’s, with many of her evocative dream imageries, angels, unicorns being commercially produced for the Mind Body and Spirit industry.Following her own personal journey and as a professional artist, Kim has been specializing in spiritual iconography, mythology and early esoteric imagery. Her printing has developed a very distinctive style with her collagraphs becoming known for the method of marrying different textures on her plates and different materials on the printed image. Kim has no problem breaking the rules and delights in creating striking images using the technique of blind embossed with heavy, 600 gram paper coupled with textured materials like tarnished metal, soluble fibres , precious metals and iridescent threads. This cohesive methods is a very exciting departure in printing and is an area she has explored in depth in her book entitled ‘Collagraph, a journey through texture’ which is due out in January 2011.
Kim has set up the BBH Print Society and invited Helen Boden and David Borrington, established traditional print makers to join her in creating a modern contemporary print society with a different. She hopes this new print society will appeal to traditional print makers and artist/ printmaker, who use traditional print methods in their work.

I am the director of Dekkle Printmaking Studios Ltd. We produce limited edition etchings and prints and teach printmaking to all abilities. My artwork is all about political current affairs from the corruption of politics to human rights.
Fortunately I am severely dyslexic with the reading age of a six-year-old; therefore I have been brought up naturally not to believe the written word and missing all the propaganda which is given out over television, the Internet and newspapers. I use historic, iconic objects with important symbolism from Big Ben to nations flags, old and new.

Helen Boden MA

After a fine art degree at Coventry University, Helen Boden studied an MA at Chelsea School of Art. Following two residencies and a teaching position, Helen became a master printer for Brenda Hartill for four years before leaving to have two children.
In 2008 Helen set up Bodenpress which is a traditional printmaking studio set in an old engineering building in Chesham Bucks. There are two presses and excellent facilities for etching, aquatint and collagraphs. A dark room is available for photo etching. Courses in colour printing, relief and intaglio techniques are regularly scheduled. Once proficient, print sessions are offered, allowing collaboration with other printmakers working in various techniques. Bodenpress specialises in small numbers and an inspiring, friendly environment.
The studio is open to the public in the last two weeks of June, as part of the Bucks Open Studios.
